Station Taxis sponsor Sunderland student business challenge

The Children’s Foundation launches Student Business Challenge supported by Station Taxis.

An exciting fundraising challenge is being set this autumn by The Children’s Foundation, a North East based charity raising money and running projects that directly benefit children and young people in the area, including vital medical and lifestyle research to help cure sick children and prevent them becoming physically or mentally ill.

It’s called ‘Take £25’ and the premise is similar to the business tasks set by Lord Alan Sugar in his popular television show ‘The Apprentice’. The charity gives each group of students taking part a starter pot of £25. The teams then battle to raise as much money as possible using this budget over a four-week period.

Launching on Monday 22 October, and sponsored by Sunderland taxi firm Station Taxis, the teams of four have to work together to put on events, buy items to sell, and run fundraising activities – developing business and entrepreneurial skills in the process. The students are battling to be crowned the University’s brightest entrepreneurs at the awards ceremony next month.

Joel Arnott, Senior Lecturer in Business and Management at the University of Sunderland said: “The brilliant thing is that the students develop their team-work and entrepreneurial skills while supporting the work of The Children’s Foundation in improving the health and wellbeing of children across the North East. So it’s a win win situation all round.”

Natalie Bland, Marketing Manager from Station Taxis said: “We’re delighted to be supporting ‘Take £25’ after the success of the initiative in 2017. Last time the students showed great ingenuity and entrepreneurship in their ideas and raised a fantastic amount for the charity – over £5,600! So we’re hoping the teams can top that this year.”
