What do I need to get started as a Taxi Driver?
You will need a Sunderland Hackney Carriage or Private Hire Driving Licence to start work, to obtain a licence the following is required:
- Full DVLA driving licence for one year
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Pass a Sunderland knowledge test
- Be able to pass a medical
- Pass a Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS)
You can join our fleet with your own hackney carriage or private hire vehicle, alternatively we can help source one for you to rent.
Is further guidance available?
Yes. We are currently working with Sunderland College’s Taxi Driver Academy to provide a unique opportunity for anyone that wants to become a Taxi Driver. This course includes a qualification, funding, and support to get you through the licensing process. Please call 0191 511 6000.
